Rachel Kirby Garden Design & Maintenance

About Me

Horticulture and all things garden have long been a passion for me. I first showed an interest in gardening as a small child and remember my delight when sowing  Nigella ( love in a mist) seeds and watching them germinate and flourish in my own patch of our family garden. As a child I was a member of our local garden club and held the trophy for designing a tin lid garden for many years perhaps that was a sign of things to come.

My family were all keen gardeners and my grandfather a perfectionist in the field of vegetable growing. Here I learnt a great deal of techniques which have helped me throughout my career. At home I continued to design and plant our family garden and grew vegetables and fruit.

In 2005 I set up a small maintenance business, caring for local gardens. Some of which I still maintain today. To enhance my knowledge I began to study for the RHS certificates in my spare time, I was hooked and continued my education to obtain a foundation degree in Landscape and Heritage Horticulture and then a BSc (hons) Environmental Design and Management.

After completing my education I spent some time working for a large private design consultancy and also a commercial landscape consultancy. I have tasted a number of roles in the horticulture industry but have returned to what I know and love the most, working one to one with clients who are passionate about their gardens and helping them to develop their outdoor space.
